Your worst spite

My worst ever spite was Kingda Ka. It was the focal point of a rollercoaster holiday when I was a kid, to ride the tallest and fastest coaster ever made. We found out when we got there that it had been struck by lightning and would be down during our stay.

Since then, recently missing Falcon's Fury at Busch Gardens is the worst spite I've had since then. Due to it being under annual maintenance (and by that, I mean it is under maintenance all year round, seemingly).

adventure dome in las vegas... why oh why did you have to be closed on my vacation. checked via google... closed. called the adventure dome number and listened to their hours... completely contradict the google site saying it was closed. listen to the phone recording again, and at the end they give the most lovely message of, "hours are subject to change at any moment of the day." so not only did i waste a day flying to vegas from my vacation in cali to try to get the el loco credit, but the crap hole dome wont open till the day i was supposed to leave.. literally right as my plane would be leaving they would open.. needless to say vegas spited me, and honestly could care less about the credit. not going back just for 1 credit that'll cost me 70+ bucks to get it. so decided to just leave a day early to head back home, and start planning my 2027 vacation.

Not sure if this truly counts in this thread, as it's a sort-of string of events, but to tell the [short] story of my current predicament.

Back in the 2024/2025 off-season I roughed in both an "Atlanta" trip and a "Texas" trip, with a view to doing one-per-year in 2025 and 2026. With Tormenta coming in 2026 and Cotaland being pushed back, I opted for 'Atlanta' last year (trip report here: Southeast USA - June 2025), leaving 2026 for the 'Texas' trip.

I fly home tomorrow from the 'Texas' trip, and have had a fantastic time and explored loads (I'll try to do a trip report soon), but:
  • Six Flags didn't bother getting Tormenta finished before the start of the season.
  • Magic Springs was a mess, with only two of the four creds being open (I already knew, and was fine with, the woodie being shut), and so I didn't fancy the $80 entry for a crap SLC and crap kiddie cred...
  • SeaWorld San Antonio were doing maintenance on Great White (fair enough, these things happen).
  • Camp Fimfo operate an insane schedule for their alpine coaster, so even though I'd arrived during an operating window, I couldn't ride for over 90mins - I had much better things to do than wait.
  • Then finally, Cotaland couldn't be arsed to finish their park (or even open anything).
However, I've hit 49 creds and 18 parks on this trip, so this has by no means been a bad trip and it's been great fun with lots of non-cred things done too.

So why post in this thread you may wonder...? Well... that's cos of where it leaves my coaster count... 999. 🥹

I'm on the European Coaster Club tour through Finland this week and we just visited Powerpark today. Junker has just been struck by lightning last night and was closed for the entire day. It may remain closed for a while, as the park is waiting for a replacement part from Gerstlauer now.

It was a lovely park and the family that runs it were all extremely nice, but I was hoping that I wouldn't need to return to this very remote park in a while. Oh well...

The wild mouse at Jardin D'acclimatation was closed all day when I was there this week, and so was Goudurix at Parc Asterix. I know I was probably better off not getting on Goudurix, but I still wanted to experience it for myself.

Goudurix is fine... people hype it up to be way worse than it is. Fair enough to be miffed about missing that - it's such an iconic coaster and a good one to add to the roster.

I'd heard more mixed things about Goudurix than something like Condor at Walibi Holland which is widely considered to be awful, so I was interested in forming my own opinion. Oh well, this is the biggest spite I've had so far abroad and I still had a great day at Parc Asterix so I can't complain too much.

I'm reassured Goudurix has greatly improved after the recent refurbishment, and I'm also very keen to ride now.

It was overhyped a tad but there has always been worthy intrigue there.

Spited by Dinoconda. Came all the way for China for this. No effort to even tell us before entering, no signs on gate, full price entry, then just literally get to the attraction and a sign sighting some garbage about weather despite it being a totally clear day. Closed indefinitely with no idea on reopening. Down for maintenance but zero maintenance done all day.

This is my most anticipated coaster in the entire world right now, even above Eejanaika, and they just couldn't even be bothered to open it or at least give explanation or any indication and apparently no one anywhere knows anything, even after many phone calls Utterly disgraceful from the park imho.

Damn, dude that absolutely sucks. And your post has a lot of parallels to my experience in 2024, which I never posted about here.

I imagine I was on a similar trip - road tripping around the east coast of the USA with a mate, we had hit a bunch of parks and on par, were having a great time, the conclusion of our trip being Six Flags Great Adventure - I didn't really care for the park itself, but I had to ride El Toro and Kingda Ka, especially as this was around the time rumours started to circulate of it's closing.

We get to the park for opening, most of the major attractions on staggered opening, so beeline our way to KK (we had been keeping an eye on the queue-times site and its up-time seemed to be temperamental at best). 2 Security guards and a ride staff member outside next to a similar sign saying KK would be unavailable. Ask quite persistently why, and if it will reopen. Security guard says 'look at it, looks closed right? Move on man'.

The day also saw pretty awful ride reliability, the food voucher system going down for 3 hours, and we got stuck on a star flyer whilst police had to come to the park to arrest a few teeangers who were smoking blunts on the ride. My experience was absolutely skewed by the fact KK was closed, but it was a really terrible time.

I went to guest services to submit a complaint about the park and ask for a refund, I never got a response. Customer Services manager said it's company policy not to issue refunds, and didn't even have the means to do it. She could re-instate my tickets for another day that season but as someone from the UK, pretty useless. One of the most iconic coasters in history, I was literally within touching distance of, but never got to ride. Absolutely my worst spite.
