Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Studios Japan closing January 2024

Universal made a deal for the Japanese park with the Pokemon Company some years back (press release) and we've been patiently waiting for some sort of attraction announcement since. The same year the deal was made the characters started appearing in parades.

The rumours are that Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure will be Zelda themed. I've not read anything regarding Japan getting something similar but I get the impression that park is a lot tighter on expansion pads.

Funnily enough, whilst the report said they were at USJ, when i watched it they were clearly in Florida... And the video has since been taken down.

The plot thickens.

Big bump but wasn’t sure where else to put this.

A couple of quotes from the CEO’s interview with Nikkei Asia;
Change of strategy: CEO J.L. Under Mr. Bonnier, USJ promoted collaboration with games and anime such as "Super Mario" and "Pokémon", changing its traditional strategy centered on film content.
Until now, it has been a standard to focus on movie content such as "Jurassic Park" and "Spider-Man", but the direction of promoting collaboration with the games "Super Mario", "Pokémon", and the anime "Detective Conan" Conversion to. The calculation will increase the number of visitors by 15% by becoming a Bonnier system.
From now on, "It is possible to establish new attractions in the park due to the relocation of parking lots. We have an investment plan for the future of 5 to 7 years, and we will continue to develop large-scale projects”
Original Source and Source that isn’t behind a steel paywall

As for that Spiderman replacement project cough cough Pokémon who knows where it could be at right now. It’s a fully indoors attraction at a park that is radio silent about new projects for 99% of the time until they’re ready to go, for all we know it could be half done by now.

Probably a bit optimistic considering they've just been building Donkey Kong Country and ongoing refurbishment of Jurassic Park to Jurassic World!

Also you'd think something as big as Pokemon would get an entire themed area which would have been spotted.

The location in the park is also quite accessible so again i imagine something would have been seen but you never know.

Pokemon will just be the ride and some light theming for the surroundings I believe. Any of the outside stuff won't be worked on until late next year.

There it is!
