Europa Park | Euro-Mir replacement | 2028

It is now being reported that Euro Mir is being removed completely, with no retrack planned: https://bnn.de/nachrichten/baden-wu...-geht-ins-all-weltraum-bekommt-themen-bereich
Nope, that's not at all what the article says.
This is so exciting! Praying for the ultimate take on MACK's Xtreme Spinner!
Definitely not happening. Sorry to burst the bubble.

Here's the real quote from the article:
Eine Hauptattraktion wird die Achterbahn Euro-Mir sein, die abgebaut und mit neuer Technik komplett neu errichtet werden soll, wie Parkchef Roland Mack der Deutschen Presse-Agentur sagte.
Which translates to:
One of the main attractions will be the Euro-Mir roller coaster, which is to be dismantled and completely rebuilt using new technology, as park director Roland Mack told the German Press Agency.

tl;dr: Euro Mir is scheduled to get the Eurosat treatment sometime in the future and will probably re-open around 2028.

If they were gonna add Space to the map of Europe, a collab with the ESA makes sense, and I think it's a decent compromise on keeping the existing Euro-Mir theme intact (other than its namesake being a soviet space station ofc). Good thing they already rethemed the other space-themed coaster on the opposite side of the park!

I'm very interested to see how the layout turns out - "rebuilt using new technology" could suggest a simple remake using the modern spinner model, but I wonder if modern tech calls for a modern layout? Europa has a decent selection of family coasters, but the family coaster market has come a long way in the past few years, and I think the park could do with a ride that had a few tricks hidden up its sleeve. I'm not getting my hopes up for massive changes to the ride, but for such a prime plot in the park, it'd feel a bit of a shame to use it for a layout so clearly stuck in the 90s.

Michael Mack said in an interview earlier this year, that the layout will be changed.
That implies to me that Euro-Mir will get more than the Eurosat treatment and will make space (badumm tsss) for a new attraction.

By the way, if families are the focus for this one, an updated layout makes sense as Euro-Mir is pretty intense in places.

It seems different sources have different wording, but I generally interpret this as a new coaster rather than a reimagine. The layout is simply not workable in my opinion, it's strange, mostly uneventful, and brutally intense at the end.

I see some nods to the towers being kept, though I doubt they would keep them all up. Unless they build the new coaster around the towers as a bit of a homage to EuroMir.

I did speak to a high ranking official myself at the burger stand opposite, and he did say that a Mack 400 foot Xtreme Spinner is the current plan, but obviously that might be a little dull of a replacement.

I'm really excited for what the future holds for that plot! I enjoyed Euro-Mir, but more by merit of it being funny than it actually being good...

I'm slightly worried about what this means for world class dark ride, BENCH, but time will tell I guess...

Thankfully it seems Bench will be staying, "They are keeping the historic Russian street and retheming the rest, so the area is just shrinking in size."

I look forward to many more rides on Bench in the years to come.

My first idea for using the towers was to build an elevator lift like the one on Cobrah's Curse, but that'd probably be too big to fit in one of the existing towers, especially with Mack's usual spinner trains being a little longer than the CC ones. It'd feel redundant anyway with Matterhornblitz in the same park! Not sure how else I'd use the towers in the layout without resorting to the pretty uneventful spiral lift again. It's definitely not the type of ride you want to add a vertical chain lift or launch to!

It's exciting to see things point towards a new layout. The more I think about it, the further I want them to go with this. Indoor sections, launches, switch tracks.. somewhere between a family-friendly Voltron and a Europa take on Cosmic Rewind ain't too much to ask for, right?

Wonder if they'll ditch the now somewhat outdated Mir theme. Euro-ISS Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Euro-Luna Gateway?

I like the idea of updating the theme but also I really hope they keep the iconic (to me anyway!) theme tune as it is so awesome! 😀

There's a new patent from Mack for what appears to be a trackless dark ride that can dock onto a coaster train...?

'The present invention relates to an amusement ride (1) having at least one track (10), wherein the at least one track (10) has at least one end section (11, 12), which adjoins a docking region (20), having at least one vehicle (30) with at least one passenger receptacle for a passenger, it being possible for the vehicle to travel along the at least one track (10), and having at least one transport vehicle (40), on which the at least one vehicle (30) can be arranged for transportation, wherein, in the docking region (20), the at least one vehicle (30) can change between being positioned on the at least one end section (11, 12) and on the at least one transport vehicle (40). The present invention also relates to a method for operating an amusement ride (1).'

I'm not too sure if this is related, but it's giving Euro Mir replacement to me. I can't see them building another thrill coaster right off the heels of Voltron and this sounds like an excellent concept!

That is true, and Europa Park has already announched Euro Mir will be replaced with a modern version of the same coaster. Possible with some differences in the layout and with modern technic. So you doesn't need to be afraid. It wil still be a family coaster and not a Thrill coaster.

Not sure if this belongs here, but the Badische Zeitung is reporting that Europa-Park has acquired an area in Orschweier (which is near the park), to relocate a storage, hotel reservations and guest services.
Might be affecting the area behind Euro-Mir but could as well be unrelated.

I wasn't a fan of Euro Mir so not sorry to see it go! I imagine it'll be a family-thrill coaster that replaces it. I went to the ECC event and a guy from Mack gave a talk; he confirmed that they're not thinking of a Mack Extreme Spinner for Europa due to the low capacity.
