Universal UK theme park in Bedford

The United Kingdom is such a cumbersome name for a country in my opinion. It's more of a vague description rather than a name. There are lots of Kingdoms in the world, many of which are United. Technically the country is called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so the full park acronym should be UUKGBNIR, not sure what animal makes that noise.
Universal Resort Great Britain or even Universal Resort England sound much better IMHO.

The name reflects the history of the country though - much like the USA, UAE, etc. It is what it is.

Universal England would not be a popular name for a lot of potential visitors (I say as a Scottish person who lives in England), in my view. Britain or the UK is much more marketable internationally and the two are a bit more interchangeable with one another than England, although all three terms can obviously be confused and conflated. Using England would potentially annoy e.g., Scottish and Welsh people (although I take the point using Great Britain could exclude Northern Irish people to maybe a lesser extent) and would then kind of tie Universal into using the English flag and not the UK flag and so on. I really don't like the idea of using England in the name. I expect the UK government would likely prefer they use something like UK or GB instead too.

As someone else said, they're probably just covering all reasonable bases for now - and might go for something else in the end ultimately (Europe, Britannia, etc.), although they've always used a city or country name previously.

Is this one of those things where they’re just covering all of their bases?

“If we can’t get GB, we’ll use UK as a back up”

Yeah I think it’s this.

They are just trademarking both, I would guess they will also get Universal Studios Europe too but never use it.

Universal Studios Great Britain still sounds the best imo.

It's a shame they're not keeping it simple with Universal Studios Britain, especially with the transport infrastructure they're proposing.

I'd love to visit the USB hub
I was impressed that they knew the name of the island Bedford sits on, unlike most Brits.... Most don't know the difference between the country, island or collection of islands. And don't get me started on the Irish haha, no disrespect intended, but they can't accept being part of the 'British Isles' just because it has the term 'British' in it, despite the fact that the name Prettanikē (Britannic Isles) was first given to these islands by the ancient greeks, it's just a geographical name. 🤣 🤣 🤣

But on topic, I don't like the name Universal United Kingdom Resort as much as Universal Great Britain.

To be honest I’m surprised they haven’t gone for ‘Universal London’ - like pretty much every airport within a 60 mile radius of the capital.

(Bonus points for anyone who got the niche YouTube reference there!)

Universal has now also trademarked the shortened version.
