It is that time of the year again. While the main part of the US-park season nears a conclusion, we've reached announcements & awards season! Who's ready? Let's look at the Golden Ticket Awards. While no single award show or voting system is universally correct, many point to the GTAs as the...
At the end of the day, each of these parks are adding something, and I have confidence that the parks will continue to get better - some better than others. I guess the buzz for 2018 will begin soon, huh?
Not to plug the GTA's, but it will be curious which ride will get best new attraction in 2017. The new announcements from Six Flags hit the wire just a short bit ago, and it appears that 4D coasters and Battles are coming to a total of six parks (3 4D coasters and 3 battles).
Like many of you...
Re: Is 2017 be a down year for coasters?
You bring up a great point. There are some projects that could end up appearing for 2017 (Mean Streak, SDC, KD Hurler, etc.), but many of those could be longer projects for a 2018 appearance. Similarly, many assume CW will get in line for a new coaster...
With all of the rumors and current 2017 announcements, it appears that 2017 might not have as many roller coaster additions. Do you think that this means that it will be a down year? Also, might that indicate that 2018 will be more coaster-focused?
Edited to correct grammar in title. - ECG
VR on a roller coaster that you've already ridden, for example, is fun, but you typically remember the layout well. It is, however, a bit more fun to ride a roller coaster for the first time but with VR headsets on as you likely will not know the feel of the course. Still, technology on rides is...
We like the usual suspects like Voyage, Millennium Force during bug season, I-305, and Fury 325, but we are really hopeful that Lightning Rod will get on track for everybody - its night ride is really fantastic!
Best Backwards Rides?
We just got done riding the Batman Backwards on Media Day (Friday the 13th) at SFOG when we wondered what other rides should be turned around and which are better backwards.
I'd love your expert insight, coaster fanatics!

Re: Cedar Point Closes Good Time Theatre-B&M Dive Coaster 20
Certainly, the cost to design a unique track just for one ride is no cost-effective in this area, but one can dream. Of course, kids can just get their fix of varied elements on flat rides until they are tall enough for the big inverts.
Re: Cedar Point Closes Good Time Theatre-B&M Dive Coaster 20
I know that Flying Aces Aerial Chase is at 2 Cedar Fair parks, but it is surprising that CP does not have a children's inverted coaster. Also, can we get a children's coaster to do one inversion? :-)
Re: Cedar Point Closes Good Time Theatre-B&M Dive Coaster 20
Cool track design, but Mean Streak is near and dear to me, for it was my first roller coaster, so I do not know if this (or anything) would do it justice. I'd want it to be the biggest and baddest RMC project ever - fastest, tallest...
We were very fortunate to take in this great Fury 325 Tour (led by Mike Fehnel and Steve Jackson). Here is 32 minutes of footage for those interested!

Apparently, as of 1/9/15, we are looking at about 45 to 50 more pieces remaining. After that point, trains will arrive and more electrical will be completed before testing begins. Barring a huge weather system or miscalculation in the precision cutting [of the track], this giga should be...
Re: Carowinds | Unknown 2015
Anybody thinking there is a chance that it will be named in the Charlotte Hornets likeness? I tried to compare rumor notes and add some dialogue in a recent blog post of mine on CoasterAddict.com, but I could easily see them going with the other two top naming...
Definitely have to be ready for the NO! I have two parks in mind as we move into 2015, and I know that a few others would probably be a 90% no, especially since they probably get a lot of these kinds of requests! Still, I appreciate the insight.
Now, what about media day events? When I went to...
