Universal Studios Hollywood | Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift | Intamin Spinning Launched Coaster | 2026

Neighbors are already complaining about noise levels from the coaster, which has yet to open. They say that the ride itself is incredibly quiet but what riders it has had scream too loudly;

A friend of mine was lucky enough to experience it a few times during a commercial shoot and left a review (anonymous);
The news report itself is pretty funny.

"They should slow the roller coaster down, they won't scream as hard"

Got to ride it twice yesterday (Express and SR). Sadly, got similar seats, rows 5 and 6 in car 3. Really fun ride, very smooth, very re-ridable. To me, a bit on the short side, given the hype.

Is it really fast? No (though a bit faster than it appears from off-ride videos). Is it super intense forces/launches? No. Does the lack of those two things make it bad? No, but it does keep it out of my Top 10 list (or the very bottom of that list).

I'm still going to very much enjoy this ride, it's great fun. I will ride it a lot. There are a few unexpected pops of air right in the beginning, and a lot of hang time on inversions, which is really wild while spinning. I don't think it's better than Velocicoaster... it can't compete with the length, speed, and forces of that.

If you're looking for a comparison, to me, it's like a shorter, more controlled version of Time Traveler at SDS (or a shorter and less intense version of Ride to Happiness).

And for what it's worth, I barely can hear the screaming from people when I'm directly under it. Saw one video taken from the viewpoint with people on the ride, and screaming could barely be heard from there... and that's closer to the direction the scream shields should be aiming to direct noise. Time will tell, but I don't know if the residential noise complaints are going to be valid.

This is kind of a bummer given we don't have an elite roller coaster in SoCal unless you count X2, which I don't. Not sure when/if that will ever happen. And just FYI I swung by yesterday and they weren't letting anyone ride, so I wouldn't plan on it being open until they have an opening date.

Definitely feels a slow 72 MPH (Maverick is the same speed as reference), and appreciate some of the early reviews. Can appreciate the bumbling layout @rideguy70 - I'll be curious how much "good spin" is an influence between having a good vs. great ride.

Just finished a pass-holder preview. Sat in the back row. They only allowed one ride. While it's too short, it's a great roller coaster. I haven't done the Mack spinners so I can't compare it to those, but the spinning really elevates the layout since there are several elements we can't see coming. A couple of great airtime moments and an awesome spinning airtime moment. Other than the beginning and end of the ride, it's very smooth. They really couldn't have done a better job with the layout given how landlocked the park is. The valley views are also amazing. I anticipate this could be an amazing night ride too.

On the negative side, the theming is lackluster... both on the ride and in the queue. Not that I'm a big fan of the franchise, but there's no real story here. The on-board audio is of an engine going and it feels like they should have some kind of cool soundtrack. There are also no "wow" elements like Velocicoaster's mosasaurus roll and camel back.

I haven't been to Epic Universe so I don't know how this compares to Stardust, but this is a tier below Velocicoaster (most rides are tbh). It's just not long enough and it lacks that stellar moment. At the same time, I do think this is my choice for best roller coaster on the West coast and maybe top 9-14 for me overall. Definitely worth a visit when it opens!
