Djurs Sommerland | Midgårdsormen | Intamin Hot Racer? | 2027

Giga Poster
Environmental permits from 2022/2023 went up sometime this week, revealing plans from Djurs Sommerland to make use of the wooded area behind their waterpark for a major expansion. The documents show a large coaster taking up that area, and the layout is a mirrored version of Toutatis at Parc Astérix (although it could just be used as an example):

This new coaster would be running from the waterpark and parallell with Thor’s Hammer, the Gerstlauer Bobsled coaster:

Apparently these permits were recently approved, and according to rumors the park would be aiming to have this ride open by 2026/2027.

Source of the documents:

The park lacks an inverting coaster. And a modern launch coaster would add to the line up and suit the park. And the park seem to have had a decent working relationship with Intamin in the past.

All adds up nicely. A coaster with a swing launch might be a tad overkill, and I'd be surprised if we see something as extreme as Toutatis. But an Intamin (multi-)launch with a couple of inversions would just be perfect.

It seems to be a trend recently and in the coming years that larger family theme parks are adding their first coasters with at least one inversion.

We've had Plopsaland with Anubis and Toverland with Fenix a while ago. There was a time Phantasialand added Black Mamba as their first coaster with inversions.

More recently, we've had Plohn with Dynamite and Chessington with Mandrill Mayhem.

In the coming years, Paultons Park have teased that they're adding in a coaster with an inversion, Nigloland have confirmed they're adding a Mack Stryker Coaster in the long term future and as above, Djurs Sommerland following suit.

I wouldn't be surprised if other parks such as Le Pal follow suit in the near future. It certainly seems that parks are keen to keep their existing audience as they grow up with the park.

LOVE Djurs and hope this comes true. With Piraten, this has potential to be the best coaster duo in any park ever.

I’m all for Djurs Sommerland. Beautiful park. But cloned coasters are tacky. Get something custom damn

Exciting. Love Djurs Sommerland when I went. If I did a proper top 10 I still think Piraten would be #1 for me still. This, and the other coasters they've added since my visit might tempt me to make a return visit.

Hi,

This picture is not directly from the Environmental Approval. It's an altered version i made for my youtube video regarding this, where i placed the toutatis layout over, originally the image only had the red layout under.

From what we can figure out in the Danish forums, it seems to be latter theory, that they are going with a custom layout. In the Environmental Approval's it mentioned 3-4 points of the ride being over 40 meters, so hopefully we will se something that would become one of the bigger intamin blitzes out there.

The coaster is likely to extend their Viking area, and be themed to Jörmungandr / The Midgard Serpent.

I have attached the original image, and a link to the document, and will try to keep you updated once we get more info :)

I hope the coaster will go through the forest. Aside from there being cut too many trees all over the world already, it could work awesome as an experience.

I was in the park Saturday the 18th of October.
They have begun on cutting down trees. The attached photo has been sent by an insider in the Coaster Club Denmark Discord server.
I also spotted a truck that's probably used for soil samples, with 2-3 workers around it.
So all in all, active work has begun, and I think we are many, that are very exited to see where this is going.

In a recent local newspaper article from december - the director states the following for 2026:
‘However, no further new attractions will be launched for the coming season in an attempt to hit the magic limit of 900,000 guests, explains Henrik B. Nielsen.
- Next year there will be no specific new attractions or activities. Instead, we are focusing on our service facilities, says Henrik B. Nielsen’.

/So maybe a thrill coaster for 2027 and then the planned accomodations / resort for 2028?/

Planning applicaton submitted for a hot racer!

The overbank could also count as one, the banking seems to be quite strong and is held for some time. Usually, this isn't done, but you know how theme parks can be.

The park is open for the 2026 season and landscaping and teasers for the coming attraction in 2027 is apparent.
It confirms a former reddit post that is will be named after the Midgaard Serpent (how did that leak 🫣).

Pictures cropped from YouTuber Isabel Hermansen. Coaster club Denmark has also posted one related to an Aprils fool.
I’m sure better resolution pictures will appear soon.

Was the hot racer approved, or is this something different?
I am no expert but there is a general planning approval valid until 2032 (local plan/municipal plan) allowing the construction of new attractions and a resort, including roller coasters. A new ride would still require a concrete project and environmental approval to confirm its within the approved conditions and regulations. Based on prior application history, my guess is that its a formality and undisclosed talks / agreements have been made.
