Serengeti-Park | Gozimba | RES Air loop | 2025?

I only heard about this yesterday, but I grasp from the dodgy translations (maybe a German can come and clarify)... it seems that they have a long list of issues. The main ones being:

- The restraints aren't designed to hold short people/kids properly. The minimum height was going to have to be 1.6m (5.2 feet) which obviously rules out basically all kids. And the park is a family park/zoo. The park says it needs to modify the ride to go down to a 1.2m minimum heightm

- There's an issue with the wheel assemblies that mean the wheels last less than half a day before needing replacement. To fix it the wheel carrier assemblies need completely re-making.

- The ride needs TUV approval in Germany and the above issues prevent that.

And to make it worse the ride was designed by RES Rides in Switzerland and built by an independent steelworker in Germany. RES blames the steelworker and I assume the steelworker blames RES for bad design. RES also mentioned that they had to redesign some aspect of the ride because the way they originally designed it wasn't possible in the original budget.

The park doesn't want to start a lawsuit because it could take 5+ years to resolve it and cost a lot of money for all parties involved - they just want their ride open!

It's a very interesting situation, the ride itself looks like a fun experience. It's a shame for the park that it can't open yet...

EDIT: For us non german speakers, heres a couple translations from videos the park posted.

I need to give another update on our newest roller coaster, Gozimba. It's really playing cat and mouse with us. We're completely exhausted, I'm telling you the truth. It did laps, smooth as an Airbus, and ran brilliantly. We were just a few days away from the very last MOT inspection, and then these days with 39 degrees Celsius came along, and this happened to us. As you can see, the side wheels on the track's trestles started to come loose after several rides. We now have really rough delivery times, and we have to postpone the opening by several weeks. I'm so sorry, and I really don't know how to make it right. Especially for the many children who were so excited about the ride the whole time. We'll obviously have to analyze what's causing this. Was it just the heat? As you know, it's a prototype, and problems like this can happen. So, I can only apologize to you again from the bottom of my heart, and I'd like to make it up to you once again. Especially for the children who dream of this ride in the meantime, just like me. I invite you all on July 12th and 13th. If you simply say the word GOZIMBA at the ticket offices here in my park, all children who come with their parents and those who come by car will have free admission on both days. And I'm truly doing this as an apology and to make amends. Thank you, and I ask for your understanding again.

News from Gozimba. I'll show you the results of our analysis. The problem is these trestles. As you can see, they're the rollers that broke in the summer. We've had everything measured and analyzed, and unfortunately, all these trestles here, where the entire train hangs—there are 14 of them in total. They all have to be replaced because they were incorrectly designed. They simply have far too little play here on the rail, exactly where my finger is. And in the curves, far too much pressure builds up on these side wheels. And as I showed you in the summer, they break. After just half a day of driving. And that's pointless, of course. So I have to officially say that this year, too, it won't happen this year. Yes, we'll keep fighting, for you, and for us too, of course. All the employees are fully behind the project, of course. This hurts and saddens me immensely. You can understand that. The park is almost like a daughter or son to me. And a roller coaster like that is too. Yes, now the manufacturers have to give us strong support. We very much hope to be able to get in touch again in four or five months. Thank you, and again, sorry for these less than positive results.

I'm getting back in touch about Gozimba. It was heavily featured in the media last week, both on picture on Sunday and on Sat. 1. Yes, the companies behind this entire project are currently ducking the issue. And the project has now completely ground to a halt. We're trying everything we can to get things moving, because without help, including financial support, we can't move forward with the project at all.

Word from RES themselves:

Claiming that they are not the manufacturer is a bit of a dodge, most manufacturers get their steel fabricated by a third party, although usually the steel fabricators are subcontractors to the manufacturer whereas in this case they make it sound like the park have selected the fabricator and engaged them through a separate order which sounds a bit unusual.

I also fail to see how at least the poor design of the restrains is in any way the steel manufacturer's fault. I also assume the wear is that severe because the trains are much heavier than the load the wheels were designed for.

Everything about the mentioned issues screams poor design, yet RES tries to paint it as a result of poor manufacturing quality. It also doesn't bode well that their other new-for-2025 prototype failed to open too.

The park has now turned to crowdfunding in hopes of raising the funds needed to complete Gozimba. The park claims Gozimba has so far cost them €7.6 million, when the original estimate was €4.7 million. An IBAN number for people to donate to has been set up on the park’s social media platforms.

Should've gotten a B&M.
Glad they are finding solutions for the extensive wear. The E-Stop problem should be a rather simple one compared to that. Fingers crossed that they might actually be opening this year.
