Lightwater Valley - Future?

I guess i'd say having your rides open is just a bare minimum thing and not really "incredible" in any way. To me it just looks like the same park as it has been for 20+ years just with better operations. Of course thats important but it doesnt really impress me.

The public don't know where rides have been but when they visit and its yet more travelling rides with rattly temporary platforms and fairground signage and lighting, it doesnt scream a quality experience. Brighton Pier Group and their predecessors have been doing the fair rides at LWV thing basically since The Ultimate opened.

Can we have some proper rides?
It is the minimum, and yet the previous owners were still failing, the park was on it's arse. Much like LWV, like Oakwood and many others before, except in Fanny's case it was failing despite having a captive audience who had little choice... Mellors came in and the difference was evident within a year. That's another thing that made it so impressive, was the speed of change.

Fantasy Island has ALWAYS felt like a collection of fixed and travelling rides, always, right back to the 90s. It doesn't need to be anything else, it's an amusement park, not a theme park, and what's more, it's a seaside park. It doesn't need to be adding a massive new coaster every decade. Their audience is captive, holiday makers, their main target market, are going to be in the area either way. As long as they get the basics right, make it a nice place to spend a day, and give those guests a fun time, they'll return next time they're holidaying in the area... There's very little alternative.

It is due a decent permanent addition though, would definitely be nice. Not sure what or where, but maybe a decent dark ride is the most practical answer. I had kind of hoped that at some point BAL would convert some of their pitches into expansion space, but that's obviously less likely now that they've disposed of the amusement park. :/

Fair enough. For me I would never ever go to Fantasy Island if it wasn't for the 2 big coasters and of course the Pyramid. Everything else just is totally unappealing to me. But yeah Fantasy Island has always had a certain feel and clientele so I suppose it works for them. Fair rides at a seaside park is more logical.

It looks even more jarring, to me, to see them in a countryside setting. I dont mind it if they sort of integrate it and keep it as a permanent ride that is technically transportable, like they did with Raptor Attack. But the rotating and swapping rides every season... I dont think thats a good move

I agree, it's not fitting for a full theme park. Obviously they're going to start out like this, as the park is in a desperate state, and they know they need to bring back families of all ages, not just young children. Adding a few thrilling rides short term is a quick and easy way to do that and hopefully boost attendance, which will in turn increase the parks viability to any potential lenders they'll need to work with to fund large scale investments.

But the interview James did with Sean gives me hope that, for the long term, they know and agree that permanent themed attractions are what is needed at LWV. They're showman at the end of the day, not just your usual suits. They know and love the industry, and whilst it's obviously a business first and foremost, they hopefully have enough experience on the ground and foresight to realise that guest experience and satisfaction leads to profit.

Anyway, I'm excited to see where this goes... Quite a turnaround from a few years ago, when I was very vocal on here that parks like LWV and Drayton Manor were doomed if they shifted their focus to small children only...

Merlin have shown how badly maintained rides shift perspectives, and if what they have done with FI is made the place run, then fair play I say.

I had, despite being a theme park fan never bothered to visit either FI or Paultons, thinking there would be nothing for me, and in both cases I was utterly wrong. Odyssey was my reason for going, but once is enough for me on that headbanger. What I respected about the place were the vibes and the selection. It's far from a perfect park, but they clearly get a tune out of it.

LWV is a very different park, and has been run into the ground, but there is a lot of scope and potential there. FI arguably didn't need a raft of new rides, with it's small footprint and decent selection, whereas LWV doesn't really need 'doing up' to the same degree, it badly needs rides.

They clearly can't turn it around in 3 months, opening as it is on march 28th, but if they can garner interest by putting a few travelling rides in, tbh I couldn't care less, because you have to run before you can walk.

Just look at the American Adventure at an example of a park that did decent theming and had decent rides but ultimately had a very fickle visitor base. It was always going to fizzle out.

LWV has a captive market that the addition of the ultimate doubled initially before dropping back to 250000. If they do it right, the can pay for the new rides with the growth of the park.

17 pound for off peak, 27 quid peak season. Anyone know what that is like against the past? I think it used to be 14 quid pp, so I wonder if that is reflective of what's coming?

An interesting point I've found is that Mellors have put up 2 coasters for sale, they currently operate in Kuwait - releasing assets for more up-to-date attractions in the UK perhaps? Although a Schwarzkopf Looping Star in a UK park would be awesome 👀

Schwarzkopf Looping Star (RCDB states: "The Looping Star was bought by UK based 'The Mellors Group'" from a park in Cyprus. It then has been operating at Winter Wonderland Kuwait): https://www.amusement-rides.com/product/looping-star-schwarzkopf

Vekoma Whirlwind (Previously at a park in Germany, RCDB states: "Flying Tiger was bought by UK based 'The Mellors Group'. The roller coaster is being refurbished by the Dutch company Overveld Coating. After being refurbished, the roller coaster was moved to Sabahiya Park in Kuwait opening in late 2023"): https://www.amusement-rides.com/product/tsunami-arrow-dynamics

If I'm correct, the Looping Star coaster in Cyprus (if its the same one) is formerly of Slagharen before going to Cyprus - the coaster replaced there by Gold Rush in 2017.

Spinning Racer now fully assembled:

If you see the logo on the park's website, I would say that's the best version IMO. Vibes of their new sister park Fantasy Island - of course with the same owner now (who also have updated their logo too).

It was the other logo displayed on there yesterday so the park seems to have listened and reacted. On it's IG page there is a black background and that makes it look much better.

Not only does it appear to be AI slop, but the text was probably written by AI as well. The rule of 3 at the start feels like a dead giveaway, that style of writing is everywhere now.

I hate it.

I fully believe they hired a graphic designer in Lincoln, given their location, Lincoln would make a lot of sense...

Problem is, said graphic designer has had their pants down and used AI... 🤣 🤣 🤣

To be fair though, generative AI is built into PS / Adobe Cloud now...
