Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon, will be selling season passes for the first time in the park's 121-year history. The 2026 passes come in two price tiers based on rider height: $74.45 for guests under 48 inches and $139.45 for those 48 inches and taller. Unlimited rides instead of purchasing tickets is always a good thing IMO. Source

It only took 15+ years, but Monster at Walygator Grand-Est is finally getting a paint job. Maybe a covered station could be next.

Today at approx 1600 Dragon Challenge (formerly Beastie ATR) at Barry Island derailed after climbing out the first drop valley after completing it's 1st Lap.
The ride stopped at the highest point and was evacuated swiftly, can't imagine it'll reopen anytime soon.
Shame we were in the queue for the next cycle too!

Oriental Land Company is expanding their Disney partnership by launching the Japan division of the Disney Cruise Line

Yup!
As a bit of an expert on Disney Cruise Line... This is going to be epic!

Oriental Land Cruise Co. will operate Disney liscensed/designed ships in Japan. Their first (and eventual second ship) will be part of Disney Cruise Line's Wish-Class, comprised of: Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024), Disney Destiny (2025) and the Disney Believe (2027).
The premise of the Wish-Class is individual, unique themes/stories on each ship. So there is already a lot of variation:

Disney Wish - Enchantment
Disney Treasure - Adventure
Disney Destiny - Heroes & Villains
Disney Believe - Promise & Possibilities

The standard cost for each ship has been around $1.2 Billion. However, from documentation when the order with the shipyard was placed, OLC are investing closer to $1.5 Billion. This ship (which details will be revealed soon) will have its own unique identity, featuring its own set of stories (and some carry overs from the sister ships). OLC advised Walt Disney Imagineering to go all out on theming and detail. So we expect the most immersive ship at sea from them!

The first ship will be delivered in Late 2028, and launch out of Yokohama, Japan in Early 2029!

Toverland is hosting its 25th birthday celebration on June 27th which will see the park open for a whopping 33 hours (!) from 9 A.M. on Saturday the 27th to 6 P.M. on Sunday the 28th. The festivities will include numerous activities such as a supersized parade celebrating all of Toverland’s seasons (spring, summer, halloween, winter) and a fireworks show at midnight. The park will then operate as normal on Sunday but guests are permitted to stay on property for the full 33-hour stretch.

Walibi Holland appears to have softened its tone towards the Dutch trade union as the conflict over seasonal employee conditions continues to linger going into the 2026 operating season. After maintaining a hostile stance over the winter (including a dubious gambit where the park tried to get employees to sign a document attesting that working conditions were ”reasonable”, which not only drew flak from the union but sparked a parliament inquiry), the park has now invited the union to dialogue in order to resolve the dispute before it starts significantly affecting park operations. The park mentions that positive steps have been taken in the interim despite the hostilities, such as wage increases and an equalization of compensation for travel expenses between seasonal and permanent staff. Issues such as pension and general working conditions remain to be negotiated.

^ The gambling house is a... strangely honest way of putting it :D

Anyway, I have to imagine they're still going to sell Pop-Expressen onwards considering they did it for Flygande Mattan as well. Pop-Expressen originally came to Gröna Lund from the long defunct indoor park Planet FunFun in neighbouring Finland after that it closed. I'm guessing if it's getting sold it'll leave the neighbourhood.

Speaking about Bling/Turbulence, this creator has done a video about the history of the ride (so far) which was very interesting and celebrating the ride during it's life, especially with the Doctor Who music backing it up 😆

There is some interesting theories about what happened to it and what could happen to it, even if the recent story with it on a van has likely changed the story and outcome that has been predicted.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom re-opens from its 16-month refurbishment on May 3rd, and will come with a lowered height requirement from 40 inches to 38. Disney says the various improvements to the coaster, including a full retracking and refreshed train carraiges, as well as a thourough review from their safety team made this possible.

At Austria's Prater, the brakeman-operated wooden coaster Hochschaubahn derails after it takes a corner too fast, injuring 5.
